From October 1st through the 31st, we try to make every normal looking appetizer into something totally creepy. Cookie gravestones, tangerine pumpkins, and naturally, spider bean dip. Because who doesn’t like the idea of biting into a tarantula’s leg….. Disclaimer: All three kids made me fully aware that 6 legs isn’t an actual spider, but rather an insect. Eight legs however requires knife skills that we haven’t mastered, so note that I am aware that we actually created beetles or cockroaches as opposed to our 8-legged arachnid friends.

What you will need:
- 15oz (one Can) refried beans.
- ½ cup sour cream.
- ½ cup salsa
- 1 cup shredded cheese (typically cheddar or a Mexican cheese blend).
- 1 tablespoon taco seasoning (store-bought or homemade).
- ½ avocado
- 11 black olives
Let’s do this:
- Spread beans evenly on a large plate
2. Layer the sour cream and salsa over the top of beans one at a time
3. Sprinkle cheese over the top
4. Add additional sour cream into a small Ziplock bag or frosting piping bag. If you are using a Ziplock bag, cut the tip off and pipe sour cream web around the plate on top of the cheese. For a piping bag, get appropriate tip and pipe sour cream into a web around the plate.
5. Spread cut grape tomatoes around the edge of the plate
6. Cut 3 olives lengthwise for the body of the spiders. Cut another 5 lengthwise and cut each piece into three smaller pieces for the legs. If you are feeling ambitious or have great knife skills, cut each one into four pieces for an actual arachnid.
7. Cut the avocado into one larger piece and 6 smaller pieces for legs. Add to dip. Take an additional olive and make eyes for the large avocado spider.
8. Add the olive spiders around the large avocado spider. Serve with blue corn tortilla chips for extra creep factor. ENJOY!!!!
