One of Sizzle and Dizzle’s all-time favorites is the gyro. While the beef/lamb gyro is much more difficult to make at home, the chicken gyro is easy, flavorful, healthy, and super kid friendly. This Greek street food can be eaten with whatever filling is everyone likes, but the traditional greek way is with meat, tzatiziki sauce, tomato, red onion, and French fries all stuffed inside a pita. Sizzle and Dizzle like theirs without onion and with pickles, but most of all – French fries

Ingredients
Chicken and marinade
- 1 lb chicken (breast or boneless thighs)
- ½ tablespoon red wine vinegar
- 1 teaspoon oregano
- 1½ teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1½ tablespoon lemon juice
- ¼ cup plain Greek yogurt
Gyro ingredients
- 1 diced pickle
- ½ cup chopped tomato
- 1 cup chopped lettuce
- ¼ cup cucumber diced
- tzatiziki sauce
- 4 pieces pita bread
- cooked French fries (optional but totally Greek)
Instructions
- Parent Task: Slice chicken into strips (or buy chicken already cut into strips)
- Kidtastic!: In a plastic bag, place sliced chicken with the red wine vinegar, oregano, salt, olive oil, lemon juice and yogurt. Let marinate in refrigerator from 30 minutes to a few hours.
- Team Task: Dice lettuce, tomato, cucumber, and pickle
- Parent Task: Cook chicken either on a grill or in a hot pan. Grill: Heat to medium. Cook 5-7 minutes on each side or until no pink remains. Pan: Add 1 tablespoon olive oil to hot pan (medium high) and cook chicken for 8-10 minutes or until no pink remains. Flip as necessary.
- Warm pita bread and serve with desired toppings. A truly authentic gyro has Tzatiziki sauce, tomato, French fries and purple onion served inside, so feel free to incorporate any of those ingredients if you like them!
